R10Cipher Centralised Key Management
We have recently released an upgrade to our Cross Platform Encryption software for Mac OSX, Windows and Linux.
R10Cipher 4.4.x has the ability to integrate with the new R10Cipher_G program which allows for Centralised and Syncronised Key Management across Departments, Sites, Campus, Labs, Companies etc.
To explain that better, and what it means to existing R10Cipher users, let’s review how R10Cipher allows you to send and receive information privately. Basically you and the recipient(s) agree a Shared Secret in advance. The Shared Secret is generally a collection of letters and/or numbers between 4 and 16 characters, an example would be:
5te123321This Shared Secret is used along with the existing document to create an encrypted document that cannot be opened or read by anyone without access to the Shared Secret. The recipient(s) uses this same Shared Secret to Decrypt the document and convert it back to the original.
So far so good. Now imagine you have fifty people who you wish to communicate with securely. To ensure security each of their Shared Secrets should be different. Any Shared Secret worth using cannot be remembered easily, not along with forty nine others ! The in-build R10Cipher Key Management database copes with this scenario easily, allowing you to use one Master Password in order to retrieve any of the fifty individual Shared Secrets. You can see the following documents for more information.

So the next stage is this: What if you and fifty, or even five hundred of your best friends / colleagues need to communicate securely with each other as well as a client base of several thousand ? This is where you need
R10Cipher 4.4.x which is a free upgrade and the Centralised Key Management Database Utility, which is an optional purchase. Contact steve@artenscience.com for Pricing and Availability Information. The Centralised Key Management Database Utility (known as GOD-Mode or G-Mode during development - try saying or typing
Centralised Key Management Database utility a few times ...) is launched and pointed at an R10Cipher database nominated as a Master Key Database, ie: one setup and managed by the Company / Department or Individual responsible for your secure communications. G-Mode then populates a MySQL Database with the contents of the Master Key Database, and a text file is edited and incremented, for example from 5 to 6.The next time any of the users who have had their R10Cipher software configured for G-Mode, load R10Cipher, R10Cipher compares the local database version number with the remote database version number and if necessary syncronises it’s local database with the remote MySQL Key Management database.
The syncronisation is one way only, ensuring that the individuals Key Database is reset as per the nominated Master Key Database. It’s simple, easy to setup, slick and fast. R10Cipher can now scale very easily in a controlled fashion, with the benefit and added security of distributed and easily backed up information.
Note: You can also setup R10Cipher with your own personal Key Management Database as well which is not designated to sync with the remote database. Perfect for keeping the Shared Secrets for your personal contacts.
R10Cipher Site Licenses are available for Corporations, Educational Facilities and others. Contact

CRM for Mac and Windows: Updated 1.9.8
Development of ContaxCRM continues at a pace. Version 1.9.8 of
ContaxCRM is now available. The new features and enhancements are detailed below.Audio Output of Contact Information and Contact Notes
This new feature is currently Mac OSX only. It is designed to help in one of two situations. In the first situation you are due at a meeting with a customer and don’t have time to read through all their history and notes to fully brief yourself before you go.
The solution is there at the click of a button. ContaxCRM will output all the information you need, date and time stamp it, and save it as an Audio File in your Downloads folder. You can then copy it to your phone, memory stick, iPod etc. for listening to in the Car, on the Train etc.
The second situation is that you just can’t be bothered or you are sick of looking at the screen and you need to get up to date with one of your contacts. The same applies, an Audio File is created which you can then double click to listen to as you lean back and put your feet up ...
Speech technology on the Mac is very good now and the voice I have selected, ‘Alex’, is the best of the bunch and will be perfectly adequate for this requirement.
I consider this a very unique and useful feature. I have to do it on Windows next ...

Subtle but Important Changes
- The 'Notes' field has been renamed 'Information'
- The 'History Events' have been renamed 'Notes'
Assorted Enhancements
User-Definable History Event Sub-Types
Double Click to Expand Documents and Tasks Views
iCal Entries Now include Contact ID
Assorted User Interface Tweaks
New Expanded, Resizable Contact Notes Window

CRM for Mac and Windows: Updated 1.9.7
Version 1.9.7 of
ContaxCRM is now available. This version features the following enhancements:- Add an iCal Event from ContaxCRM (Mac OSX Only)
- Alt-I Shortcut Key for New iCal Event
- iCal Event Saved to ContaxCRM History
- Double Click Arten Science Logo on Main Window, Launches the Arten Science Website
- Email footer text option added to the Compose Email window
- CSV Address Book Export Script
- Capture Incoming Email for ContaxCRM Script
- Alt-H Shortcut - Insert History Event
- History Event Drop Zone: Drag and Drop Text Documents into Contact History
- Outstanding Tasks shown on Main Screen
- ooSooM tab replaced by separate Tasks and Documents tabs
I’ve explained some of the new features in more detail below, along with some screenshots.
On an operating system like Mac OSX where there is a half decent calendar available that everyone has and most people use, I never understood the need to re-invent the wheel and write a new Calendar system for ContaxCRM. At an early stage I thought it made more sense to integrate with iCal. The first part of this integration, adding an Event, and the sequence of events, you can now see in the following screenshots.

Selecting which iCal Calendar to Use

Inserting the Event Information

Event Stored Successfully in iCal

Event Recorded in ContaxCRM Contact History and Viewable from the History Window

Expand the ContaxCRM History Event

Here it is, in iCal
The way it works is this; If you have a Contact selected in ContaxCRM and you select the ‘Calendar Entry’ option from the Actions Menu, or use the Shortcut Key, CMD-I, then the iCal Event Entry screen is opened. Possibly you have just finished entering the details of a conversation with a prospect into the ContaxCRM History and now you need to book a call for next week to remind you to contact this prospect again.
You can now fill in the details on the ICal Event Entry Window, you can select which Calendar to use from the Dropdown Menu, you can choose to set an Alarm and you can enter a Title and Notes. The URL and the Contact Details are automatically copied into this iCal Window for you, leaving you with less input required, yet a more informative Calendar event.
You can see from the screenshots above that you are informed of the success of creating the event in iCal as well as the extremely useful bonus of having this event automatically written to the Contacts History. You can also see the results of creating an event as it appears in iCal.
The ooSooM tab has been replaced by separate Tasks and Documents tabs as seen in the picture below. This is to help with future developments in these areas. In addition, Double Clicking the Arten Science logo will now take you directly to our website. On the main window you can also now see the Outstanding Tasks from
ooSooM, the sister program of ContaxCRM.
Importing from Apple Address Book
The standard ‘Apple Address Book Import’ is consciously limited in the fields that are imported. If you store addresses and other information in your Address Book then the new script that I have included in the ContaxCRM folder will help you. It will make the job much easier than it is currently, although it is not a perfect solution. That is due soon ![]()
Is is now possible to drag one or more text documents onto the ContaxCRM screen and have them automatically added to the Contact History. In the screenshot below you can see the green ‘down arrow’. Just drag a text document over the arrow and release to have the contents of that document added to the current Contacts History.

The Story of R10Cipher

Product Name
R10Cipher
http://www.r10cipher.com
Overview
A Simple and Easy Method to Safely Encrypt your Email Correspondence and Document Files. It's like your emails and documents are carried by a SWAT team rather than being written on a Postcard ! R10Cipher is for Individuals. For Businesses. For You. For Me. For Mum and Dad. For Teachers. For Professionals. For Journalists. For Executives. For Everybody. Because our Privacy and Security have never been more important.
Innovation
R10Cipher is unique in that this is the first cross platform end to end encryption product that real people can and will use for day to day encryption purposes. R10Cipher does not attempt to encrypt a complete volume, R10Cipher does not try and involve the user with complex Public Key encryption, R10Cipher does not need a complicated install, in fact R10Cipher does not need installing at all. R10Cipher concentrates on being the easiest to use and most reliable End to End, Text and File Encryption software.
The lack of an installation makes R10Cipher unique in that you can copy the Windows (XP, Vista and 7), Mac OSX and Linux versions of R10Cipher to a USB drive or external device, along with your documents and carry your data about with you knowing that a) You can access that data on any computer and b) It is secure, so if you lose it or leave it in a taxi then the information is unreadable and no harm is done.
Because of it's simplicity and ease of use R10Cipher pioneers new ways of working. Backup your important data to the web, encrypted by R10Cipher, and retrieve the information later, wherever you happen to be. Your data is secure - secured by you not by your web hosting company. If your hosting company is enforced by law to hand over your information, that information is useless to the recipient unless *you* agree to provide access.
The recipient of an R10Cipher encrypted document or file has to do nothing more advanced than double clicking the file and entering the ‘Shared Secret’. The document or file is decrypted and saved to the recipients desktop using the original file name. Again, this is one of the features of R10Cipher that helps make R10Cipher an encryption product that can and will be used by ‘Mum and Dad’.
The main innovation of R10Cipher therefore is not in the technology but the way in which the product is designed to be easy and simple to use for everybody - not just IT Professionals.
Success
From an initial release in early 2008 R10Cipher is now at Version IV which was released June 4th 2010. Version 1 was build because we needed it and I decided that if we did, then so did others. Version 1 sold a few dozen copies and using the feedback from these early customers Version 2 was released with some significant enhancements including drag and drop batch encryption of files and documents.
When Version 2 was released, Version 1 was featured as a free edition on the DVD Cover Disks for the UK editions of MacFormat and MacWorld, on consecutive months. Since then I have agreed for it to be distributed on several foreign editions of the magazines. Hundreds of new users were gained through the distribution of the free edition, and many of those went on to pay for an upgrade to Version 2.
Direct Sales of Version 2 were excellent, with good feedback and testimonials. New customers means new ideas and feature requests and so Version 3 was scheduled.
Version 3 released 2nd August 2009 was a major new version that addressed all user requests from Versions 1 and 2. The main advantages of Version 3 were an increase in encryption strength to 384 Bit, an encryption strength indicator and a full Key Management capability which creates an encrypted local database which contains the ‘Shared Secrets’ that you use to communicate with your different contacts.
With an appropriate password you can recall these and use them for encryption and decryption quickly and easily.
Interest in Version 3 was phenomenal, it far exceeded our expectations. We have had many upgrades from Version 2 to Version 3 and as we offered an upgrade policy even from the free edition, we have had a few upgrade from Version 1 to Version 3 also.
For Version 3 the decision was made to give NFR, Free of Charge, copies of R10Cipher to employees of Apple Computer Inc. We also offered our desktop security product MonitorMyMac http://www.monitormymac.co.uk/ on the same terms. Interest from Apple employees has been excellent with over 1000 licenses already applied for and sent. Who knows how many licenses sold since have been a result on recommendations from Apple employees ?
In April 2010 in conjunction with MacFormat Magazine we offered a free Version 2.5 SE on the DVD Cover Disk with a discounted upgrade to Version 3. This promotion was not as successful as earlier promotions, possibly because 2.5 SE was a ‘designed to be free’ product, rather than an actual previously sold version. In addition Version 3 had at this stage been out for a while.
This brings us neatly to June 2010 and R10Cipher IV. An exciting new release of R10Cipher which now comes as standard with it’s companion program cuteCipher. http://www.cutecipher.co.uk/
Commercially R10Cipher has been a great success for Arten Science with several thousand users and it is a product I am very proud of. Just as importantly, our customers have had immediate and measurable benefits through the use of R10Cipher, previously they knew they needed something to protect their communication and documents, but they could not find a product that seemed easy and simple enough for them to use.
IT Security and Data Protection are high on many peoples agendas at the moment, or at least they should be, and yet the majority of people are left exposed because until R10Cipher came along there was not a product simple and easy and complete enough for them to consider using it.
Customer Satisfaction
Some of the feedback we have received for R10Cipher over the last 12 months:
R10Cipher is a fantastic cross platform tool which has given us the peace of mind that our patient sensitive research data can be transmitted electronically in a secure manner on site or with collaborators around the world. The ability to encrypt and attach files to emails or simply encrypt the email text between Apple Macs and Windows PCs without the need for complicated software installations means that our users are happy to use this great bit of software. The developer’s proactive approach to their software development requesting and rapidly incorporating users feedback has turned a good encryption tool into and excellent one. - Paul McGrath, Computer Manager, Cancer Research UK Clinical Centre
My Sony USB Microvault is so much easier than lugging my laptop through airport security, yet again. The nightmare of the lost or stolen USB stick is only too real, with the Staff Salary Reviews and the Acquisition Financials modeled in embarrassing detail. I use R10Cipher for Mac as a simple and reliable way of exchanging financial models and private placement memorandums across platforms as well as for secure storage on my USB sticks and portable hard drives. Simple, reliable and easy to use. - Karl Mattingly, Partner, slowCapital
R10Cipher is simple, easy to use and powerful. It is the best encryption program for the Mac we have found. - Paul, OnTravel.Com
R10Cipher has been an excellent product for ensuring the safe and secure transmission of files in a cross platform environment. As an independent Strategy Consultant using Apple Mac, but with a client base using mostly PC platforms, I need to find a way to easily send sensitive market and financial data to clients with no hassle for my clients. R10Cipher does the job simply, easily, and with no problems at all, and causes no difficulties with clients firewalls. Enough said!... great product. - Peter M. Scott
For NetFoos I am lucky enough to travel around the USA and parts of Europe to bring live streaming foosball tournaments to the foosball community. For the live streaming there is a lot of information needed to keep the server running and secure. Now, while on the road with R10Cipher, receiving this information from the home office is much easier as we can simply encrypt and email it while feeling confident that our data remains private. Although we are constantly finding new uses for the software, this one capability has made R10Cipher a great investment for us. - Mark Winker, NetFoos.com
If you need to make company or private info available on a need to know basis, them R10Cipher is the tool for you. There are other encryption packages but I haven't found an easier to use cross platform software than this one. - Paulo Pires
Developed in the UK
R10Cipher was designed and developed entirely in the UK by Steven Cholerton, a Chartered Information Technology Professional awarded by the BCS, Fellow of the Institution of Analysts and Programmers, Certified Ethical Hacker and holder of several Security and Technology certifications.
UK Encryption Algorithm
The encryption technology used by R10Cipher was also developed in the UK. Blowfish is a keyed symmetric block cipher which was invented by ‘Security Guru’ and renowned author, Bruce Schneier, Chief Security Technical Officer at British Telecom, in 1993. It provides excellent encryption and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Blowfish is free of patents, and back doors, and Bruce has placed Blowfish in the public domain.
Blowfish was chosen over AES for two reasons, a) It’s a fast, secure and respected encryption technology and b) There are still many concerns, specifically in the USA, about the security of AES and whether a backdoor exists to which the government has access. Whether that is true or not is irrelevant as it is a popular public conception and using Blowfish bypasses those doubts when selling to US customers.

Review January 2010
Excerpt from: R10Cipher From Arten Science - Encryption at Its Best
Author: Brian McClue

Software doesn't always have to be complicated and, contrary to popular belief, it doesn't always have to be what I categorise as "bloat-ware". Very rarely an application comes along that does exactly what it says on the box.
Security suddenly becomes very important and you need to have a way of keeping this safe from prying eyes or unexpected account access.
With this in mind I found myself engaged in a long-term search for an application capable of encrypting text or on the odd occasion a file. The application had to be cross-platform (able to work on a PC as well as a Macintosh), it had to have a small footprint (absolutely not bloat-ware) and it had to be portable (i.e., it would fit on a USB stick).
It took a long time of finding likely products and trying them out only find that they failed the test on some part of my criteria. The most frequent reason for failure was the way some of these programs insisted in spreading code components throughout the operating system (like Ivy crawling up the side of a house). I found it infuriating and quite pointless to see how such a straight forward application could be made to destabilise other programs and take up huge amounts of disk space for such a small return in functionality.
I had missed it in most searches because of the awful name. It may have seemed smart to mimic the company name in the product title (R10Cipher is made by Artenscience) but I still get caught off guard when searching for it my applications or my downloads storage area.
That said the product itself was like a breath of fresh air. It's simple (so simple it doesn't need an installer), it's effective and it's cross-platform. It ticks all the boxes and is easy to use.
As mentioned, there's no installer. On a Windows computer you simply unzip the downloaded archive, create a new R10Cipher folder in Program Files and copy the contents over. Create a shortcut on the desktop and your good to go!
You can monitor the process of encryption in the "R10Cipher Events Feedback" window, but to be honest the encryption process is so fast that all your likely to see here is "Starting" and "Finished".
File encryption is just as straight forward. Just drag and drop the file to encrypt into the "File Encryption Area", provide the Shared Secret and click on the "Batch" button. Your file will be encrypted and the extension ".r10Enc" will be added thereby identifying the file.
If you drag that same unknown file into the "File Encryption Area", provide the Shared Secret and hit "Decrypt File" it does appear that R10Cipher recognises the file as one of it's own, because it asks you to name the file and then dutifully decrypts the contents.
R10Cipher is clearly a live project for it's developer judging by the number of updates. I have been using this application since version 2.x and it is regularly updated.
The developer/author of R10Cipher, and the owner of Arten Science, is Steve Cholerton. Over the years I have found that Steve is very open to comment and, as with many small development houses, is very hands on ... I have to say that I am not the least bit surprised given what a superb application this is. It should take pride of place in any Internet user's toolbox.

Review February 2010
Excerpt from: R10Cipher
Author: Nate Dickson
Link: http://blog.coals2newcastle.com/2010/02/review-r10cipher.html
I'm always interested in cryptography, protecting passwords with other passwords, and other such geekery. I've tried 'em all, from the excellent 1Password on the Mac to the almost useful KeePass ("the password protector with the terrible name"). From the somewhat nerve-wracking LastPass web service to the bottomlessly paranoid trueCrypt. So when I heard about r10Cipher I had to check it out. In less time than it would take you to say "free evaluation copy" I had downloaded the program and was trying it out.
Which brings us to the first high point: the developer is friendly and responsive. He worked with me to get through some initial setup bugs on my Windows 7 laptop, with responses coming less than two hours from most of my emails. The odds of most people having similar problems are low, as my test environment is "unique" to say the least, and many programs (Ruby, MySQL, and sqlite3 to name a few. I should probably just wipe it and start over. But that's neither here nor there.) have run into trouble on that machine. When I installed on a less-unique laptop the setup was quick and painless.
R10Cipher (by the way, the developer's company name is Arten Science, and he tells us that "R10" is a play on "Arten", which I think is a play on "Art and", making this the first software program with a DOUBLE PUN in the name. +2 cool points just for that.) runs from a single directory, making it easily stored on and used from a flash drive: no registry changes, no install directories, everything is in one place and pleasantly un-cluttered and un-annoying.
Which is also true of the interface. Clean, simple, and intuitive, it provides you with a number of easy to use and easy to love options for encrypting text files, address book entries, even emails. With the pleasantly modest cost of the software it's easy to picture this application taking its place in a law firm, medical office, or any other place that needs to be able to email sensitive information without worrying that it's being read en route. The software is true cross-platform (Mac/Win/Lin) so you can send files to anybody that needs them and be sure they will be able to open them.
Internally, R10Cipher uses Blowfish encryption, which is comforting. One of my main concerns in testing out new encryption options is the worry that they're using some proprietary encryption method that turns out to be roughly as secure as Pig Latin. (Note: don't translate the word "Password" into Pig Latin in front of your mother.)
The one shortcoming isn't really a shortcoming: Lack of easy browser integration. 1Password is still my password safe of choice. But R10Cipher wasn't meant to be a password management utility, so comparing it to 1Password et al is comparing apples to oranges.
Overall, If I were to create a star ranking system R10Cipher would get a solid 4.5 of five stars. The half-star being taken off for the somewhat awkward name.
If you have a need for simple but robust security, you need to give R10Cipher a look.

Hi! I'm Nate. I like to talk and talk and sometimes I say intelligent things. I'm married to a beautiful girl, I have three kids, a dog, a house, and I'm working on a Master's degree in Computer Science. I play pen and paper games, and board games, and I like to write novels, short stories and code. Yep. I'm a geek!
Summary
The success of R10Cipher is down to one thing only: The fact that R10Cipher provides much needed security and encryption functionality in a way that makes it accessible to anybody and everybody. Having listened to the users and let them guide the development of the product has meant that R10Cipher does what it needs to do and no more.
The R10Cipher website states boldly at the top: ‘Security For All. It Just Works’ and goes on to say ‘It's like your emails and documents are carried by a SWAT team rather than being written on a Postcard !’. Those two statements mention nothing about 384 Bits or Blowfish or Symmetric Block Ciphers, instead they appeal directly to the man in the street who has information that needs protecting.
The fact that we listen to our users and incorporate their changes as well as the ability of R10Cipher to work on all popular computer platforms without requiring installation, that is all icing on the cake.

Why R10Cipher ? Part 9/10
Paul McGrath, Computer Manager, Cancer Research UK Clinical Centre
My Sony USB Microvault is so much easier than lugging my laptop through airport security, yet again. The nightmare of the lost or stolen USB stick is only too real, with the Staff Salary Reviews and the Acquisition Financials modeled in embarrassing detail. I use R10Cipher for Mac as a simple and reliable way of exchanging financial models and private placement memorandums across platforms as well as for secure storage on my USB sticks and portable hard drives. Simple, reliable and easy to use.
Karl Mattingly, Partner, slowCapital
R10Cipher is simple, easy to use and powerful. It is the best encryption program for the Mac we have found.
Paul, OnTravel.Com
R10Cipher has been an excellent product for ensuring the safe and secure transmission of files in a cross platform environment. As an independent Strategy Consultant using Apple Mac, but with a client base using mostly PC platforms, I need to find a way to easily send sensitive market and financial data to clients with no hassle for my clients. R10Cipher does the job simply, easily, and with no problems at all, and causes no difficulties with clients firewalls. Enough said!... great product.

Mark Winker, NetFoos.com
If you need to make company or private info available on a need to know basis, them R10Cipher is the tool for you. There are other encryption packages but I haven't found an easier to use cross platform software than this one.

Why R10Cipher ? Part 8/10
Data Security and Privacy are an ideal, a holy grail that we as citizens in the 21st century are striving for. What was once considered a right, is now considered difficult and virtually unattainable.
Convenience and Security are generally seen as being divided by a large gap. Veer to the left of that gap and we have greater Convenience, at the expense of Security. Veer to the right and we have greater Security, at the expense of Convenience.
I don’t think it has to be that way. R10Cipher is designed to make security of email, text and documents convenient and easy to use without compromising on security.
Additionally I am using the R10Cipher engine in a number of my products to give inbuilt encryption by default, there is no reason that the data stored within your CRM System or your Todo Manager should be stored as clear text, built in encryption in all kinds of products is the way forward.
I am also working with other companies who are using the R10Cipher encryption libraries to build encryption into their own products from the start.
Choosing R10Cipher should not stop you using other complimentary encryption systems. Full disk encryption products such as TrueCrypt add to your overall security and as such work well with R10Cipher. Security is better viewed as a layered approach, there is no silver bullet or one stop shop.
I believe that generally speaking security is looked upon by the man in the street as too complicated and too expensive and as such often gets ignored.
With R10Cipher I hope to change peoples minds and therefore help protect their privacy.

Why R10Cipher ? Part 7/10
One of the problems that I discovered while testing the PCD Initiative was the problem of Key Management. In other words, for security purposes, I as an IFA for example, should use a different Shared Secret for each client but how do I remember each of those and who they belong to ? The answer came with version 3 of R10Cipher and the inbuilt Key Management capability.
R10Cipher Version 3 features an encrypted database of contact names and their email addresses. Stored against each of these individual records is also their Shared Secret. All of this information can be recalled and used by entering a single master password. I need only my master password to communicate securely with any of my contacts, using their own individual Shared Secrets.
There is also the option of setting a secondary password called a ‘Usage Password’. This password allows an individual, maybe a member of staff, to send and receive encrypted communications with the client without ever seeing or having the ability to change that clients Shared Secret.
I believe this method of communicating between large groups of people securely has simplicity and security advantages to the Public Key methods available, whether centralised using a Certificate Authority or decentralised ‘Web of Trust’ PGP type methods.
Another advantage of R10Cipher in this scenario is that you have the control, you are not relying on a third party, or a web service to handle the encryption.
With R10Cipher it is all done locally.

Why R10Cipher ? Part 6/10
The reason I created the Protect Client Data Initiative (www.protectclientdata.co.uk) was because I believe that we can get more people to use encryption by starting with the organisations that deal with the consumers in a professional capacity, Independent Financial Advisors, Accountants, Realtors and other professionals.
If we can convince these organisations to use R10Cipher to encrypt their communication between themselves and their clients then the benefits are felt far and wide.
The PCD Initiative works by selling a personalised copy of R10Cipher to a professional organisation. They then have the right to give this software to all of their clients free of charge, or if they wish they can charge a fee. Communication between this organisation and their clients is then done using R10Cipher to ensure the privacy of the communication.
Using the example of an IFA, the benefits for them are threefold:
They are seen to be taking their clients privacy seriously, their competitors may not be
Any incidents of identity theft cannot be levelled at the IFA
They fulfil the requirements of their governing body for ‘treating customers fairly’
In the UK The Data Protection Act 1998 regulates how organisations should handle personal data that relates to a living individual who can be identified. Organisations processing personal data must do so in accordance with eight core principles. Principle 7: Technical and organisational measures should be taken to prevent unauthorised and unlawful processing, loss or damage to personal data. Encryption is not specifically mentioned, but is one of the best ways of complying with Principle 7.
With R10Cipher compliance is easy, simple and inexpensive.

Why R10Cipher ? Part 5/10
Another area in which R10Cipher can be used successfully is when communication needs to be made between individuals using technologies that are publicly readable. An example would be a blog being written by a world traveller in which he updates his audience daily as to his location and his adventures.
Tagged on the end of a blog post could be an encrypted message that can be decoded only by his wife in which he tells her how much he misses her and can she send him some toilet roll as this item appears to be in short supply in Outer Mongolia.
R10Cipher is ideal for this purpose.

Why R10Cipher ? Part 4/10
Some encryption solutions available are in my opinion potentially dangerous, as they give the illusion of security while in the real world being subject to being compromised all too easily. There are a number of common ‘server based’ or ‘black box’ type email encryption systems. These systems encrypt the email whilst in transit.
This is fine as far as it goes, however what about if the email gets sent to the wrong person accidentally ? or if it then gets forwarded accidentally by the recipient ? What about if the recipient’s computer is insecure and her email inbox is reviewed by someone when she is out of the office ?
In my opinion for an email to be considered secure it should be encrypted in such a way that the only people who can view the contents are the sender and the intended recipient(s).
R10Cipher is the obvious choice.
Steven Cholerton
Arten Science

Why R10Cipher ? Part 3/10
It seems that despite the publicity given to security, encryption and identity theft, very few people actually take these threats seriously. Our own government and Civil Service have time and time again been caught out and been exposed as not taking security, our security, even national security, seriously.
This is, I sincerely hope, down to individuals being confused about or choosing to ignore security policies and not down to the fact that these organisations don’t have any security policies in place.
The reason, I believe, that security is often ignored is because it is perceived as too complicated for the average person. In a lot of cases it is. Security and Encryption are, and need to be, Complex - but Not Complicated.
If an encryption product could be copied onto your computer, whether it be running Windows, Mac or Linux, if this product could be run from a USB drive or a CD-ROM, if this product was only 32Mb in size and was fast and easy to use requiring no installation, or runtimes, would people be more comfortable using it ?
If you could communicate using this encryption product and the recipient if not already possessing the product, could download it in seconds and use it to decrypt the message without any payment or registration, would people use it ?
If you could encrypt a bunch of files just by dragging and dropping them into R10Cipher, could it be any easier ?
If an individual receiving an encrypted document could double click the encrypted document, enter their Shared Secret and have the encrypted document be decrypted and automatically saved to their Desktop under it’s original file name, isn’t that easy and straightforward enough ?
An American school teacher recently purchased R10Cipher and now uses it to send messages to the parents of her students. As the ‘decrypt only’ version of R10Cipher is free of charge, this was done at no cost to the parents and only $15 to the teacher. Price along with flexible and fair licensing are additional ways in which R10Cipher triumphs over it’s competitors.
R10Cipher can do all the above, and more.

Why R10Cipher ? Part 2/10
R10Cipher is a simple and easy way to safely encrypt your email, text and document files. It is like your documents and email are escorted by a SWAT Team rather than written on a postcard.
R10Cipher offers secure, peer to peer end to end encryption using up to 384 Bit Blowfish encryption.
The encryption technology used by R10Cipher was developed in the UK.
Blowfish was chosen over AES for R10Cipher due to the fact that rightly or wrongly there is some suspicion in certain circles, specifically in the USA, that AES is compromised and that their government may have a back-door into AES. The reality of that point of view is irrelevant as it’s the beliefs of the potential customer that matters.

Why R10Cipher ? Part 1/10
This series of posts discusses why you should use R10Cipher to ensure your communications are kept private and confidential.
In this document there is very little discussion of the technology. There is a very good reason for this.
Technology is the easy part of security, the real issue that needs addressing is how to make the technology easy and simple enough so that it is used.
Security and encryption are as much about people and processes as technology. What good is security technology if people cannot or will not use it.
R10Cipher was designed from the ground up to be useable by ordinary people. The design for versions 2 and 3 was based almost totally on feedback from existing and potential future customers.
