ooSooM for iPhone (Nearly)

My iphone developing colleague emailed me a new version of
ooSooM for iPhone last night. It uses Dropbox to keep the data seamlessly syncronised with the desktop editions of ooSooM and ContaxCRM. It’s not (yet) pretty but it’s quite functional so I will be using it in anger on my iPad for a while.Some screenshots below:

Three updates today. Nothing serious, in general we have changed the trial version to a standard 30 Day Trial and also implemented
ContaxCRM Suite licensing so you only need the one serial number for the whole suite. In addition the ooSooMpro update includes a bug fix to the Unicode handling.The new releases are as follows:

This blog post was inspired by a potential customer asking these questions. It is information that may well be of use to other potential purchasers of the

Q: Does ContaxCRM sync iCal Tasks with ContaxCRM ?
A: Part of the ContaxCRM Suite is ooSooMpro. ooSooMpro is a Task Manager and Secure Digital Vault / Document Management System. The Task Manager within ooSooMpro is designed to be used instead of iCal tasks, (which to be honest seems almost an afterthought from Apple), but events that are time and date specific, for example a Dentist's Appointment, would still be entered directly into iCal. The idea here is that for 'things to do tomorrow / next week / whenever' you would use ooSooMpro and for events tomorrow at 11:15 you use iCal. The main screen of ooSooMpro shows you the iCal events as well to avoid you having to look in two places.

Q: Does ContaxCRM Sync with the Apple Address Book
A: ContaxCRM can initially have it's contact database populated (imported) from the Apple Address Book if you desire. After that selective contacts can be inserted into the Apple Address book from within ContaxCRM at the click of a button. It does not syncronise as such, as the purposes of the Address Book and ContaxCRM are very different. Your ContaxCRM will likely contain many hundreds or thousands of records, from Prospects to Customers to Suppliers. In a Multi-User environment some of these contacts may not even be anything to do with you. A simple sync is therefore not a good idea, although as mentioned earlier, interaction between the two is both desired and necessary.
A: The iPad / iPhone Edition of ContaxCRM will be available before Christmas 2010
A: The concept is 'CRM On The Go'. We don't believe it is realistic to carry the whole of your CRM database around in your pocket - however our concept is to intelligently hold locally what is 'current' and 'necessary' and wherever possible if there is a connection available, we will retrieve additional information as and when you require.

Note Taking and Filing with ooSooM

ooSooM our Task Manager and Secure Digital Vault software is perfect for capturing and filing notes and thoughts as well as for preparing and storing scrips as you create them, scripts such as blog posts, white papers and other forms of creative or technical writing.
There are several methods of doing this using ooSooM and our associated tools.
Method 1: If you are a Mac user then you can run the free software tool NanooSooM which comes with the Macintosh edition of ooSooM. NanooSooM can be launched automatically at system startup and is then available at anytime, anywhere using a Global Hotkey Combination (Shift + Alt + Return). NanooSooM will accept text input which can then be saved directly to the ooSooM Inbox. NanooSooM is perfect for capturing those sudden ideas quickly and easily without having to break your concentration.
Method 2: Another method is to use the free software Justwrite, available for download from the 'Free Software' section of the Arten Science website. JustWrite is available for both Mac OSX and Microsoft Windows. JustWrite is ideal for use when composing longer documents as it takes over the whole screen of your computer and has very limited features and functionality to get in the way of you releasing your creative genius. You can adjust the width of the text input area and change the font size, name and colour as well as the background colour and that's pretty much it, apart from the ability to save directly to the ooSooM database.
Method 3: You can of course enter text directly into ooSooM, either into the Inbox area, to be filed and categorised later, or directly into an existing Urgency, Type and Heading area. You can choose to enter directly into the main text input area, or alternatively use the 'Quick Item Entry' (Cmd / Ctrl + K) Window.
ooSooM has many strings to it's bow. I hope this article on note taking, text input and quickly capturing ideas with ooSooM helps you better utilise our software.
*BLATANT PLUG* Don't forget that with the purchase of a low cost ooSooM Pro license your information can be encrypted and therefore safe from prying eyes, however you have chosen to enter it.

It's great to know that so many people are using and enjoying the product.ooSooM is available Free of Charge and we make revenue from the Encryption / Decryption security features that are enabled by purchasing either an
R10Cipher or ooSooM Pro license. For those that don't want or need these features ooSooM is entirely free, with no strings attached.As a registered user you may receive an email from us every few weeks telling you about the latest offers from Arten Science, but you can unsubscribe to that very easily, and you won't hear from us again.
I think any customer of ooSooM who has been using it since version 1.0 will see that the product is now far better and more sophisticated than those early versions, your feedback has been very positive.
Products have to evolve and change to improve and ooSooM is reaching the point where the features that we would like to put in the product and the features we are being asked for by our customers, as well as our commitment to the
R10Office suite mean that the next version of ooSooM is no longer viable to be released as a free product. Developers also need to eat The current free version however will remain supported for at least the next 12 months. The next version of ooSooM will be called ooSooM Pro. Anybody with an existing ooSooM Pro license can use this license with the new product. In addition anybody with an R10Cipher license can apply for an ooSooM Pro license free of charge.
The cost of an ooSooM Pro license will increase when the new product is released, so if you are toying with the idea of upgrading to an ooSooM Pro license for ooSooM, you should do it soon while the price is still very low.
ooSooM Pro will offer a more complete, more reliable and better looking experience that the current version of ooSooM. Some of the features that we have either already completed or we have in progress or planned are:

The Todo and Vault items can now be sorted by dragging and dropping the individual rows in the list. Each context has it's own sort order, so for example an item can be bottom of the list within the Urgency heading, middle of the list within the Type heading and top of the list within it's own heading category.
This functionality replaces the Priority dropdown menu from previous versions.

ooSooM is still available free of charge.
The Item Properties window has been redesigned, it is now Wide rather than High. There has been several bug fixes and user interface tweaks in 2.1.6. None of them critical. The final change is the addition of the SPECIAL section in the Vault. if you insert a Category within the Vault and precede the name with the Caret symbol ie:

First Arten Science Updates of 2010

The four main components of the
R10Office suite have all been updated today.
ContaX CRM Each application has been updated so that when the program is run for the first time a default database is created, rather than the user having to create it manually. In addition, when downloading an update a message is shown to the user explaining the procedure that should be followed. Both of the above features are designed to make life easier for the user and to avoid any areas of potential confusion. ooSooM has received a new, much asked for, feature. The addition of ’Tick Boxes’ against each Todo Item. To mark an item as Complete you can just click the box. An Archive feature will be added in a future release, that will take each ’ticked’ item and store them separately under an Archive heading. That’s all for now folks

ooSooM is a Todo Management and Secure Digital Filing System for Macintosh OSX and Microsoft Windows.
Version 2.0.0 is a significant upgrade for ooSooM. Nothing has been added to Version 2.0.0 that has not been suggested by several of our existing customers. There are many uses for this functionality. For example you can create an entry in the Vault titled ‘Website Marketing’. You can then enter text concerning website marketing and then drag and drop supporting documents and pictures that will then be moved and stored and accessed from within ooSooM. To access this new functionality it is necessary to first go to the Preferences window (which for ease of use can now be accessed from the Toolbar as well as the Menu, another version 2.0.0 change), go to the Configuration tab and use the ‘Choose’ button to select the location for your Attachments. Once this is done you should restart ooSooM and then you can use the Attachment functionality.

The most significant change in Version 2.0.0 is the ability to attach multiple documents, for example pdf files, jpg pictures, word documents etc. to a single Vault Item.
If you wish an entry in your Item or vault list to stand out you can now choose to Bold, Italic or Underline the entry.

Prior to Version 1.2.5 if you wished to take advantage of the Encryption and Decryption features of ooSooM you would need to input your R10Cipher serial number, if you had one. For those of you who don’t have one and have no intention of purchasing R10Cipher on it’s own merits, then it was perceived as an expensive way to add those useful Encryption / Decryption facilities to ooSooM.
So, catering to the many requests I have received, as of Version 1.2.5 of ooSooM you can choose to purchase an ooSooM Pro License which is available very inexpensively and once input into the Encryption tab of the ooSooM Preferences window will give you full Encryption / Decryption capabilities.

New Movie: Using ooSooM with R10Cipher

There’s a new movie available on the ooSooM website that demonstrates how to encrypt and decrypt Digital Vault items. To do this the only pre-requisite is that your R10Cipher license has been input into your ooSooM Preferences window. The two products work well together and you are encouraged to purchase R10Cipher immediately

ooSooM is a Todo Management and Secure Digital Filing System for Macintosh OSX and Microsoft Windows.
ooSooM 1.0.8
The only modifications for 1.0.8 are cosmetic. These changes affect both the Mac and Windows versions, but the Windows version in particular benefits from the update.

This updates makes it easier to setup R10Cipher for Decrypt Only. The Decrypt Only option is now offered the very first time that R10Cipher is started. R10Cipher is free of charge for Decrypt Only.

New Product Release: ooSooM

Today I released my latest product: ooSooM.
ooSooM is a Todo Management and Secure Digital Filing System for Macintosh OSX and Microsoft Windows.
The idea behind ooSooM is simple. To get on with the job in hand you need to get thoughts of what needs doing and what needs remembering out of your head and safely and securely logged, in a way that means you can find them later when needed. Bits of paper are so yesterday 
ooSooM does not attempt to force a predetermined 'methodology' on you, rather it's very free format and open allowing you to use it however you like, but with enough structure to ensure that once logged, information can retrieved easily and readily.
ooSooM is Windows 7 and OSX Snow Leopard compatible.
ooSooM is supplied FREE OF CHARGE for PERSONAL USE.
One of the unique features of ooSooM is that if you have an R10Cipher license then Todo or Vault items within ooSooM can be Encrypted / Decrypted on an individual basis. This allows you to use ooSooM to store confidential information such as Passwords, Serial Numbers, Credit Card Numbers, Bank Details Etc.
Another unique feature of ooSooM is that it integrates directly with ContaX, our CRM package. This means that Todo items and Vault items can be linked to particular Customers, Suppliers or Contacts. This link can be seen both from within ooSooM and within ContaX.

The User Guide is not yet complete, but there is a Getting Started Manual that comes with the download and is also available to view and print from the website.

New Product Coming Soon: ooSooM

A while ago I was developing a product called Sicuro. Sicuro was later renamed R10Vault. R10Vault was designed as a Cross Platform secure storage for digital ‘snippets’ of information, such as Credit Card numbers, program code, server logon details etc. etc. I eventually abandoned development of R10Vault but never lost the desire to create something with that functionality.
At the moment when it comes to organising myself, my projects and my digital ‘stuff’ I have a three tier approach:
Historical and Digital Filing is handled by YoJimbo.
Todo Items and Projects are handled by Things
Calendar Items are handled by iCal.
iCal is fine, it syncs well with my iPhone and is simple as a calendar should be. I have no complaints with iCal. YoJimbo is very good but Mac only, Things is also very good but again Mac only. I occasionally work on my Windows Netbook so ideally I would like cross platform functionality in these programs. I also find they have way too many features that I don’t use that sometimes distract me.
The idea behind R10Vault has been dug up, modified and a new program is emerging. ooSooM (Out of Sight. Out of Mind). ooSooM will feature the functionlity of R10Vault which will then replace YoJimbo, and it will also feature the best functionality from Things.
Therefore, for organising myself I will have iCal for dated items and ooSooM for everything else, both historical (filed) and current / future Todo and Project items.
My initial mockup of the interface can be seen in the picture below:
I’m making a real effort to keep ooSooM simple and clean, both in use via the interface and also in functionality. At the moment I have no plans for the release date or even a full specification, it will be ready when it’s ready. It will also probably be released as Freeware, although I reserve the right to charge for it in the future should I decide to.
