The Cavalry Arrives
It’s going to be *that* kind of week. Luckily the
Cavalry has arrived in the shape of a dozen boxes of coffee, assorted South and Central American, Asian and Western African roasts … Lovely !
Farewell Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs altered millions of lifestyles and literally invented markets where none existed before.
iPod. iPhone. iPad. iMac. MacBook Air. Yes, I do own at least one of each … But don’t tell the wife !What about
iTunes ? Ok, so even Steve Jobs can have an off day … Steve Jobs was a true visionary and he will be greatly missed. We can only hope that his resignation doesn’t do to Apple what Bill Gates resignation did to Microsoft. I mean, Steve Ballmer ? ‘Mr Developers, Developers, Developers …’ ? Microsoft’s light has dimmed under Ballmer, I hope Apple can continue to burn brightly without Steve Jobs.

More Recommendations
A couple more recent recommendations from customers. I am very appreciative that they took the time to write these.

I have worked with Steve over the last 18 months and found him to be the consummate professional, and a pleasure to work with. Extremely well organised and has delivered against all deadlines on each of the projects we have undertaken together. I'd happily recommend Steve to any business requiring IT skills or software development.

Steve was hired initially to assist me with a complex implementation of an off the shelf piece of software for one of my clients. However it very quickly became obvious to Steve that it would be considerably more effective and quicker to write a bespoke piece of software to perform the task.
The completed software is incredibly easy to use and is so flexible it can be used without modification for other clients. It has a minute footprint compared to the original off the shelf software I was going to have to implement; this alone has saved my client many times the cost of the software as the server specification could be reduced down to the bare minimum from a high end one.
Steve is very easy to work with and produces the goods on time, in budget and with a smile. I shall certainly be using him again.” June 10, 2011

New Recommendations
I contacted a few customers recently and said ‘Look, if I did a good job and you are happy, how about a recommendation on
LinkedIn’ - these are the first three received yesterdayNote:
LinkedIn is like FaceBook for Business, it’s a great service that seems to be really gaining momentum.***
Bespoke Software Development
Steve is always timely and professional, We found him to be very approachable and understanding of our needs. His work always achieves what we feel was the impossible at the time - Steve has the ability to interpret our business processes, simplifies them with elegance which in turn allows us to concentrate on running the core elements of our business. Keep up the good work Steve! June 9, 2011
Paul hired Steve in 2009, and hired him/her more than once.

“This guy has great integrity and is and expert in his field. He's helped us with IT security (truecrypt and bespoke email encryption) as well as general pc set up, printer networking, software, etc.
Happy to and have recommended Steve to my clients as I can trust him to look after them.
Arten Science seems to be branching out with the services they offer and may soon achieve world domination - are distributing software in the US, Europe, Japan and the list keeps growing.
Good luck for the future Steve, although I don't think you'll need it as your expertise and friendly nature will get you there.” June 9, 2011

LunaTik Blackout
Black, Stainless Steel, Rubber, Noisy and soooooo Sexy. Sounds like the menu in an S&M parlour but look at the picture below and pretend you don’t want one.
$90 is a lot for a watch strap but this watch strap allows you to insert you 6th generation iPod Nano and have your music, audio notes and audio books available everywhere.
Except maybe the shower. And the Beach. It may even be geeky enough to affect your pulling power with the opposite sex, except at Microsoft or Apple conferences.
I’m married so it’s ability to instantly drive away non geeky females doesn’t bother me at all, in fact ... maybe my wife should buy it for me ?

Paranoid Cover
I just dug this recording out for someone on Facebook and decided to share it on here - why not - it’s my blog after all ![]()
This is a cover of the Black Sabbath song
Paranoid which we did several years ago and the vocals were recorded in my dining room by my friend Moowie one evening after several pints of Guinness, The guitar and solo played by me were also recorded that evening and the following day a programmed bass and drum track was added along with some sampled crowd noise.I ‘mixed’ it, for want of a better word, and compressed it into the mp3 you can listen to below. Should you so wish. And are sure. Really Sure.

The 'Ho' Tone Scale
I Hate Garageband
I hate Garageband. From it’s horrible ‘wood imitation’ window design to it’s unintuitive interface and even the choice of colours used. It is the worst looking piece of software ever to leave Cupertino. Did I mention how much I hate Garageband ? The developers, or more precisely, the designers of Garageband should have taken the time to read the Apple Human Interface Guidelines, you know, the document they ask all the 3rd party developers to adhere to ...

It’s not that I don’t understand multi-track recording software. Back in the day I used to use Sonar, Cool Edit Pro etc. with no problems. Maybe it’s just me, maybe my brain cells are dying more rapidly that I realised. Did I mention how much I hate Garageband ?
If you know of another product for the Mac that does multi-track recording and mixing. Please let me know.
